…And opportunity is all around us, at all times! The challenge is, we are typically not in the right frame of mind to see the opportunities swirling around us each day.

The first course of action is to shed the negative film which surrounds our thinking, muddying the waters. When we demand a positive outlook on life, and begin actively looking for the opportunities we need to move forward in our endeavor, the water becomes crystal clear.

Begin this habit: Several times a day, take a pause, look around, and say to yourself, “God has given me these opportunities which surround me right now; how can I use them to move myself forward?”

We can all recall the enormous opportunities which presented themselves at certain points in our life. Stop waiting for the next big one; look around with a new perception of reality, and see the opportunities hovering in every direction!

Acceptance of what has happened is the first step to overcoming the consequences of any misfortune.

James, William, Father of Am Psychology

—William James (1903; public domain)

…We have all experienced or done things in our lives which we wish could be undone. We dwell on, maybe even fantasize about, having the imaginary ability to go back and change what happened or the decision we made that led us down a certain path. When we catch ourselves ruminating about what could have been, it helps tremendously to remember that God sent us down that path for a reason. It had to happen that way! Everything we do while on this journey of life, everything we have been through, is and was done for Spiritual growth. Let us rejoice in that fact, accept the path we have walked along, and remain focused on the glorious road ahead!

—Seneca the Younger (c. 4 BC – 65 AD, Advisor to Nero)

Embrace Adversity

Adversity has the effect of eliciting talents, which in prosperous circumstances would have lain dormant.

Horace (public domain)

…We control our world by the way we perceive it.

While we cannot orchestrate external circumstances, we have full power over the way we perceive those circumstances, thus controlling the way they affect our lives. Most of us cringe, get angry, or even fall into a depression when adversity comes our way. However, once we realize that life is a proving ground Divinely designed to help us grow toward our Creator, we begin to see each individual challenge for what it really is: simply another opportunity for spiritual advancement.

Remember, God doesn’t throw anything at us we cannot handle. And the more we put ourselves out there in the arena, the bigger target we become for adversity. That is the way it is supposed to be! Don’t try to hide in the stands, it is a miserable existence; enter through the Gate of Life, and then embrace and fully live the experience!

Look for yourself, and you will find…only hatred, loneliness, despair, rage, ruin, and decay. But look for Christ, and you will find Him, and with Him everything else thrown in.
