Relentless, repetitive self-talk is what changes our self-image.

As a wealth manager, I have had a “control group” of clients to study over the course of a generation. Some are always sunny and positive, while others naturally gravitate toward negative thoughts and dour talk.

I wont go so far as to say that only good things happen to those clients with a sunny disposition while a series of unfortunate events befall those who are overly pessimistic, but I have witnessed a marked difference in the level of happiness between the two groups.

Few of us realize the level to which our self-talk (and literal talk) affects the level of pleasure in our lives. If we are constantly exposing our mind to negative thoughts, images, and stories, why on earth would we expect to be happy? Correspondingly, if we are constantly feeding positive thoughts into our mind, based on a bedrock of spirituality, how could we not live a generally happy, balanced life?

With all of the garbage thrown at us by the press each day, it is very easy to get sucked into a negativity loop. But don’t fall for it! Have pity on those who constantly throw out stories designed to outrage or foment despair, and firmly decide that you will go down the light-filled path. Create positive affirmations and thoughts you can visit throughout the day—especially when you feel yourself slipping into a darker mental state. Flood your mind with positive and reaffirming self-talk, and you will see it begin to manifest in your life.
